Dad at the Grill - An Impromtpu Mother's Day

So my parents came up for the weekend from sunny Florida all the way to sunny Jersey. And since we were all together we decided to celebrate Mother's Day a week early - and what better way to celebrate than a bbq?? The weather was so gorgeous, but we had to divide our time between sitting outside and sneezing and sitting inside and recovering. Ahh allergies... Mother Nature's cruel joke.

While inside Mom got to marinating the chicken. Lots of garlic, olive oil, salt and pepper, some Herbs to Provence and that was that. I helped her chop the veggies and Dad got the grill ready. Steaks, chicken and grilled onions, zucchinis, tomatoes.... we were all starving and ready for it.

To top things off he made a simple strawberry shortcake with angel food cake mix, fresh strawberries soaked in Cointreau and homemade whipped cream (no sugar added!). Dinner was delicious and I ate more than my share. Luca only wanted mac and cheese and after he took a few bites and left the table I promptly finished that off too. It's nice to be able to eat like a beast and not be judged. Ahhh.. eating for two.
